Thanks to Singapore government for taking the smart initiative lead to have their pay, much company in Singapore will take this good opportunity to cut the wages of their employees claiming to follow government lead, even though is totally not necessary. Worst of all, most employer will be aiming at the 19% target. For everyone’s awareness that 19% of Singapore’s political leaders and top civil servants salaries is nothing compare to 19% of an average salary earner. Take for average, 19% of $3000 earner will be $570 before CPF reduction. In this current economy situation, what is most important to majority of us is the amount we bring back for our family or pockets. Several hundreds reduction could means eating lesser, less outing for their children, lesser educational supplements etc. Basically is quite a major change from their usual lifestyle. What is 19% pay cut means to our Singapore’s political leaders and top civil servants who enjoy sky high salary? If some says that Singapore government is biting the bullet during tough time, we can be considering biting the bomb.
If Singapore government is serious is fighting the tough time together with our fellow Singaporean, they should set a good example by considering a much greater % of pay cut because they have a bigger share to offer to the society. Much company in Singapore will therefore think twice before they consider the pay cut move. Even if there is really a pay cut going on within a company, one can tell is likely a genuine case as bosses will be leading a bigger pay cut. I consider this the best time to observe how our government act like our big bother to help, share and offer during this world wide economy depression.
